Effective December 31, 2008
all municipalities and territories without municipal organization
had completed a Municipal Fire Protection Information Survey and
had been deemed compliant with the minimum requirements of the Fire
Protection and Prevention Act.
The Municipal Fire Protection Information
Explanatory Guide serves as useful data and information gathering
tool to assist fire and municipal officials in meeting their obligations
under relevant legislation.
There is a regular turnover in senior
fire department administrators, municipal staff and elected officials.
A substantial number of present day fire chiefs, municipal chief
administrative officers, municipal clerks and elected municipal
officials were not in office when the original survey was conducted
for their respective municipalities. The survey explanatory guide
now entitled Municipal Fire Protection Information Explanatory Guide,
has been retained as a resource for newly appointed officials to
assist them to understand the intent of the original survey.
Municipalities
are responsible for ensuring continued compliance with the minimum
requirements of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
